Dear Awbrey Park Families,
We have family conferences from 4-8pm on Wednesday, October 28 and from 8am-8pm on Thursday, October 29. Your teachers have reached out to set up a conference. Please contact them if you do no have a conference set up. It is so important that we connect with each other. Our focus will be on how online learning is going for your child. This is such a challenging time. We need to continue to communicate so that our kids stay engaged and learning. We won’t have school on Thursday or Friday, which is a comp day. We would like 3-5 grade students to attend the conference if possible. We want to make sure their voice is heard. It is harder for younger students to participate. A key part in how students are submitting work is through Seesaw. We have included a short video on how Seesaw works. This is so important. Please view this. Seesaw Link
We have also attached our Title Compact plan. This is the student, family, staff agreement to work together to help support your child.
We need your support in making sure our iPads are staying efficient. Please help your child close all the tabs or windows on their iPad. They should also turn off the iPad at least once a week. One parent reported that her child’s iPad was really running slow. She found out the child had over 50 tabs open. Once they were closed, the iPad ran much better. Please work with your child to make sure they are ready for school each day. This means having their iPad with the camera on, and paper and pencil ready to work. We would like student to have their cameras on during their class, unless you have worked out something with the teacher. We try many different ways to make the online learning engaging. We want to be able to monitor and give encouragement to our kids, just like when we are in brick and mortar school. That is difficult to do if the camera is off and we can’t see if the student is following along or not.
Our next Supply Pickup will be on Thursday, November 5 from 8:00-5:00. We will have a free Awbrey Park t-shirts that PTO has bought for every student. These are awesome! We will have math workbooks for students and other supplies. Also, family members can also order t-shirts by using the link below. Unfortunately, these will need to be picked up later.
The big question from many of our students is will we be having a parade? Our students, families, and staff deserve to be celebrated! We have been wanting to hold a parade or event to show our appreciation for our Awbrey Park community. The fires wiped out our plans at the beginning of school. Our families and staff’s health and well being is our first priority and responsibility. After much contemplation and with the COVID cases in Lane County at an all time high, we have decided that we will not have a parade or other socially distance event at this time. We will find some ways via zoom to come together as a community, celebrate and have some fun! We will have Paint Night on Thursday, November 12 at 6:30pm. PTO has even include watercolor paints and popcorn in our next Supply Pickup. This will even include a short Dance Party at the end.
We will have our next PTO meeting on November 2 at 6:30 led by our Counselor Kristen Gianforti. The first 30 minutes will be a short presentation by Kristen on “How to Support Our Kids During These Tense Times.” We will then go on with our PTO meeting which will last about 30 minutes.

Are you an Awbrey Park family that could use a little help with ongoing food support or a little help for the upcoming holidays? Please read below and fill out the linked form. Or are you an Awbrey Park family looking to help out some of our families with food for the holidays or a gift card?
If you are a family who can offer some help and contribute to helping some Awbrey Park families for the holidays please email our Awbrey Park School Counselor, Kristen Gianforti at gianforti_k@4j.lane.edu
Could you benefit from receiving a bag of food twice a month? The Assistance League of Eugene is very generously working with Awbrey Park to supply food to families in need. This would consist of a bag of food every other week to be picked up at Awbrey Park.
The holiday season is also sneaking up on us! Do you need help for the holidays? We are hoping to provide a meal for Thanksgiving and possibly gift cards for the winter holiday. We try to help as many families as possible, but when there is a high need, families are provided assistance on a first come first serve basis. It is extremely important that you get the forms back as quickly as possible and no later than Tuesday, Oct. 27. Participation is kept confidential.
Please click the link and fill out this form if you are in need of any of these supports!
Thanks,
Mrs. G (Your Awbrey Park School Counselor)
