Awbrey Park Announcements 09/08/2020

Dear Awbrey Park Families,

We are getting ready to start the school year on Monday, September 14.  As you can guess, it has been crazy busy getting ready to teach our kids.  Last Spring, we were in emergency mode.  This Fall we have a planned out way to teach and engage our students.  We will do a slow roll out so that we don’t overwhelm our kids and families.  See the schedules below.  We want to continue building our Awbrey Park spirit.  We are better together than we are alone!

We will have Technology pickup on Thursday and Friday, September 10 & 11 from 8:00-5:00 each day.  We really want every student to have one of our iPads.  These will have all their logins and apps on it.  It will be so much easier for students to use our iPads.  They can be almost totally self-reliant, instead of asking family members for help all the time.  We will have a later time (to be determined) when we will give out supplies and great free Awbrey Park T-Shirt purchased by our wonderful PTO!  Also, please return any Library Books that you have from last year.  If you are attending Eugene Online Academy, you will still get iPads from us.

Family Zoom Orientation Meeting on Wednesday, September 9 at 6:30. We will go over what school will look like and answer questions.  We love to dance and have fun, you never know when we might end with a short dance party!  The Family Zoom link

You will receive an email from your teacher on Thursday, September 10 welcoming you to their classroom.  This will include a link to a google doc so that we can try and set up a family meeting the week of September 14.  During that week, the students will meet each day for one hour with their class to get to know each other and practice with their iPads.  During the Family meeting, the teacher will get to know you and get information so that we can better support you.  Some of the questions they will ask include:

  • Where will your child do their online learning (one home, multiple homes, daycare)?
  • Will your child do live (synchronous) or (asynchronous/on demand) learning or a combination of both?
  • When will your student be completing assignments? (Mornings, Afternoons, Evening)
  • How else can we support you

Attendance-We absolutely need your child to attend to school every day if possible. It is important that students engage in either Synchronous (live) or Asynchronous (on-demand) learning every day. School can be challenging and we need the opportunity to engage your child so they feel like part of the class and learning the curriculum. If your child is sick, please call our Attendance line at 541-790-4054. Teachers will take attendance every day. Students will be marked absent if they don’t attend Synchronous (live) or Asynchronous (on-demand) in one school day. Families will be notified by phone call if their child has been marked absent and the family did not notify the school.

The schedule

We will start slowly.  We will slowly build up the full schedule as students build their skills and stamina in using technology to connect with their teachers.  Please see Week 5 for the full schedule.  We are asking students to make every attempt to join us for the blue portion of the schedule each day.  For weeks 1-5, we suggest students stay “live” with their teachers for the green portion of the schedule as well.  During this time, teachers will be live with students guiding them through their day’s lessons, explaining and practicing routines.  They can also problem solve any technology issues.  Your teacher will contact you the week of September 14 to learn more about your student’s plan/individual schedule.

 

“Live” (Synchronous) Learning:  Families are asked to prioritize this teach each day for students to participate in live instruction.

“Live” or “On-Demand” (Asynchronous) Learning:  Students who work with their teacher will be guided through these daily lessons.  The lessons are also available “On-Demand” for student to complete on their own time.  On-Demand lessons will be prepared and shared (not recorded) so that students participate in them when they are ready (similar to the way you might watch an on-demand TV show, Netflicks or Disney Plus).

 

Additional Learning

-A 30 Minute PE or Music lesson will be posted daily in your student’s Seesaw classroom.  Live opportunities to meet with PE and Music teacher will occur later.

-Students will have an additional 45 minutes of “applied learning” tasks including independent reading, Dreambox and other activities from their teacher.
