Dear Awbrey Park Families,
We are excited to be holding three parent workshops based on the concepts of Conscious Discipline. Come learn, connect and explore approaches that empower you with skills to help create a safe, connected, problem-solving environment for your family. Kristen Gianforti, our super counselor, will be leading the workshops. Attendance at all three sessions is encouraged but not required. All sessions will take place in the Awbrey Park Gym from 6-7:30pm starting on Thursday, February 20 (the other two are on March 3 and 18). Please RSVP so we can plan for food and childcare. Two years ago we did a different parent workshop on Love and Logic. We had a great turnout. These workshops will be terrific!
We are celebrating World Read Aloud Day with Firefighters and Police Officers on Wednesday, February 5. The First Responders will be sharing their love of reading with all of our Kinders and 1st Graders during their SMART time in the morning. Our SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) program is one of the biggest in the state. Every Kinder and 1st Grader reads with a SMART reader once a week throughout the year. Later in the day, all of our classes will read with their buddy classrooms at 2:00. Reading is special, and we want to enjoy it with our friends.
PTO is Monday, February 3 at 6:00 in our Library. Come and join the fun! PTO does so much to enrich our school.
Craft Night is on Tuesday, February 12 from 6:00-7:30 pm in the Gym. Students buy a stamp card for $1 and get to make crafts, cookie decorating, and flower walk. It is such a fun time. This is another great event put on by our PTO. This is a really relaxed event. Show up whenever you want and make your crafts and perhaps win a flower during the flower walk.
Our Community Cultural Night was a huge success. The school was packed! Thanks so much for the students, families and staff who made it such a great celebration. The student projects were wonderful. Also, thanks to our professional photographers Lynn Marie Chapman and Amy Anderson. We will be sending home the photo soon through Monday Mail.
February 7th is the whole school dental exam clinic. This is just a quick, no-touch, check for obvious signs of dental issues. Fluoride varnish and sealants will also be done for students who have returned the yellow Lane County dental form. This is the first time the county will be applying sealants to teeth if a student has a tooth that could benefit from it. Our 5th Graders will be going to Outdoor School on May 6-8. We will be holding a Family Meeting at 6:00 on February 26.
We are going to have Family Dance night on February 28 from 6:00-7:30 pm. This is a chance for your whole family do dance and have fun. This is a new event for us. We won’t be serving food or drink. Just a time to come and dance your feet off. Our kids are natural dancers and we know this will be a fun event!
Kindergarten registration for 2020-2021 is on March 5 from 6:00-7:00 pm. Families will get packets for registration. If you know of anyone who lives in our attendance area, please get the word out.
Please drive slowly and safely when bringing kids to and from school. Please enter through the East parking lot to drop off your students. Stay in the car line. Do not pass cars on the left to go around the car line to park in the back. This is unsafe. Please remain in the car line as you pick up or drop off students. If you want to park, please wait until the car line proceeds until it is safe to do so. Drive slowly as you enter and leave our parking lot. We want our students and families safe. Do not enter the North parking lot during bus drop off time 8:00-8:20 and 3:00-3:15. This is for buses only.
Please join us on February 3 and 4 at Pastini for a Friend Raiser. This is a great chance to get out and see your friends, laugh and have some great food. You need the flyer with you.
