Awbrey Park Announcements 01/13/2020

Dear Awbrey Park Families,

How are you connected to the world?  Come to our Community Cultural Night on Thursday, January 23 from 5-7 pm and find out how your children are connected.  Each student has come up with their own project, “The Best Part of Me.”  This is where students have written poems with pictures and graphics telling about the best part of themselves.  “The best part of me is my eyes because they are just like my grandma’s eyes and they are full of kindness.”  These projects show how students relate to the world around them.  It gives them an opportunity to give a candid sense of themselves by describing a part of their body and how it allows them to navigate their world.   Students build cultural awareness, self esteem, and spread knowledge about ones’ background.   They are also photographed showing an important line from their poem.
It will be a night of food, music, dance, photographs, and student projects.  We will have a free chili feed for all families.  Come anytime for a great experience.  We have professional photographers who are taking free optional family portraits.  We will give one copy to the family and another will adorn our walls to continue the tradition we started years ago.  Even when a family moves on because their child is going to 6th grade, they are still part of community in spirit and in photographs on our walls.
Musical and dance entertainment will be provided:
5:15–Taiko Drummers
5:45–Kinder and 1st Graders

6:00–2nd and 3rd Graders

6:15–Community Performers
6:35–4th and 5th Graders
School Choice is the transfer process where families can consider different schools for the 2020-2021 school year.  Students can attend their home school such as Awbrey Park or look to attend other schools in the district.  If you live in our attendance area and want to attend Awbrey Park, you don’t need to apply.  If you are attending Awbrey on a boundary waiver, you also do not need to apply again.  If you are attending Awbrey this year, but have moved out of our school boundaries, you do need to apply.  If you live out of our boundary area and have a kinder for next year, you will also need to apply for the kinder.  If you have any questions, please contact our office.

Every Day Matters!  When students miss too many days of school, they fall behind and struggle to keep up with their classmates.  A few missed days a month adds up to more than an entire month missed in a year.  Especially, Kindergarten and first grade are critical for your child.  Absences during these early years makes it more difficult to learn in later years.
