We will be doing a Mo’s Clam Chowder fundraiser sponsored by the PTO. This is an opportunity to help support our school and get a great meal. What a double bonus! We are asking families to help us. The clam chowder costs $10 and feeds four adults. It comes frozen in a plastic quart bag with cooking directions.   You just add milk and are ready to go. This is one of our two fundraiser for the year. The earlier one was the Jog-A-Thon. They allow us to buy more technology, iPad-minis, and pay for our fieldtrips.

Our goal is to sell 900 quarts of clam chowder. We get four dollars from the sale of each quart. Orders are due on Tuesday, February 13. We will be distributing the chowder on Thursday, February 22. If your child has a small order, we will send it home with the student. If your student has a large order, we need parent support in coming to school and picking it up. Orders will need to be picked up by 6:00 pm. For example, we believe a Kinder can carry three quarts home.

 To make this fun, we have some incentives:

• Every student who brings an envelope back to school qualifies for a Bulldog recess. It doesn’t matter if they sell any or not, the student qualifies.
• If they sell an order, they will also get a really cool puzzle ball.
• The class with the most order gets a popcorn party.
• For every order a student sells, their name goes into a drawing for Principal for the Day.

If the students reach their goal, they will get to “slime” some lucky classmate. If you have every seen a TV show where someone got slimed (green gook all over someone) you get the idea. I was slimed two years ago and Student Council was slimed last year. It was kinda gross, but really fun. This year, any student who returns an envelope will have the opportunity to have their name pulled to be slimed. The more orders you have, the more times your name goes in. If a student doesn’t want to get slimed, they won’t have to. The students who get to throw the slime will also have their names pulled. Believe me, students will definitely want to be slimed or throw slime at someone else.  We appreciate your support. It makes a real difference for our kids.

Our Family Cultural Night was a huge success.  The school was packed!  Thanks so much for the students, families and staff who made it such a great celebration.  The student projects were wonderful.  A special thanks to our guest performers: Masha and Sergei Telesheva, Halau Hula o Na Pua o Hawai’i nei, and Eugene Taiko.  They all made our experience so much richer by sharing their culture with us.

Craft Night is on Thursday, February  8 from 6-7:30 pm in the Cafeteria.  Students buy a stamp card for $1 and get to make crafts, cookie decorating, and flower walk.  It is such a fun time.  This is another great event put on by our PTO and staff.  We still need some help in covering a few shifts.  Please let us know if you can volunteer.

School Choice is the transfer process where families can consider different schools for the 2018-2019 school year.  Students can attend their home school such as Awbrey Park or look to attend other schools in the district.  If you live in our attendance area and want to attend Awbrey Park, you don’t need to apply.  If you are attending Awbrey on a boundary waiver, you also do not need to apply again.  If you are attending Awbrey this year, but have moved out of our school boundaries, you do need to apply.  If you live out of our boundary area and have a kinder for next year, you will also need to apply for the kinder.  If you have any questions, please contact our office.  The deadline for in district is January 31.  Out of district opening starts March 1 and ends on April 1.

Friday, February 2 is a no school day.  Staff will be working on report cards.
