Newsletter 12/10/2018

Dear Awbrey Park Families,
Wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands!  We’ve had quite a few students out sick.  We are taking major precautions to try and help our students stay healthy.  We are having students wash their hands throughout the day.  At lunch and breakfast, we are having student do Grab and Go food instead of our normal salad bar.  The hope is that students will be as clean and germ free before they eat.
We have our PRIDE Assembly on Wednesday, December 19 at 10:45.  If your student is getting a PRIDE Award, you will be contacted by your child’s teachers.  PRIDE Awards are given out three times a year.  PRIDE Awards are our most prestigious award given out to just a few students in each class.
We are doing the Golden Ticket Booster. This is where we target certain behavior to help students be successful.  Students are trying to outdo the other classes at their grade level to get the most Golden Tickets.  We are targeting: 1. Showing respect to others,  2. Giving attention to staff.
The Holiday Care and Share board is up in the front office. This is where we can support other members of our Awbrey Park Community.  We appreciate the support.  Stop by and choose a tag to purchase a gift for a student in need. Please return the wrapped gifts to the office by Monday, December 17.
In an effort to help our students to be college and career ready, we are taking 5th Graders on a tour of the University of Oregon on December 20.  They will tour the University, listen to a panel comprised of college students talking about their experiences, and attend a University of Oregon’s Womens basketball game.  We want our students comfortable on a college campus and place they can attend if they desire to later in life.
We have our Winter Break Reading Contest coming up.  All students who meet their grade-level goals of reading minutes over Winter Break will get a free book and a prize.  All you have to do is read and record your minutes on the calendar that will be sent home in Monday Mail next week.  Kinder/1st Grade:150 minutes.  2nd/3rd Grade: 200 minutes.  4th/5th Grade 250 minutes.  Read, read, read!!!
Thanks to SANIPAC for sponsoring our Tailgater!  Their support made the event such a fun time.  It was also a great way to teach students sportsmanship and respect as we celebrated the Civil War.  It doesn’t matter who wins, but that we all have a lot of fun (kinda)!
Thanks to Northwest Community Credit Union for giving grants to two of our students.  Stacey Yarbro got a $1,000 grant to buy new instruments for our students and Katy McGuire got $350 for classroom supplies.
The first day of school after Winter Break is on January 8.  We hope you have a safe and restful break!
