Newsletter 04/20/2016

Dear Awbrey Park Families,

Please join us on Monday night, April 18 at 6:30 pm in the North Eugene Library for a very special visit by superintendent Gustavo Balderas and Assistant Superintendent Charis McGaughy.

This is a unique opportunity and not a night to be missed! Come hear about a vision for the North region and participate in the conversation! This is a chance to think more deeply about the possibilities for our school communities… and share your ideas and thoughts about the future of our region.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Kindergarten Orientation is on Tuesday, April 26 at 6:30. This is a chance to enroll students and get them ready for school for next year. If you know of anyone who has a Kinder for next year, please let them know about this event. We want to get our students ready for a fabulous future.

Our Bingo/Movie Night was awesome last Friday night. It was a great chance to come and have fun playing Bingo. The PTO and SANIPAC were kind enough to feed everyone. It was hilarious watching kids and families getting so excited when they won at Bingo. We raised over $700 for field trips and new technology in our building. It was a blast!

Photo Day is on Tuesday, April 19. Only students who bring a picture packet on Tuesday will be photographed. If parents forget the packet, please contact us and we can have your child’s picture taken on that day. Parents would then order online:

Ordering online is quick, easy, and gives you a wide selection of choices:

  1. Go to
  2. Create your own package with the sizes and quantities you want.
  3. Pay online and send completed flyer with your child to Spring Picture Day to make sure your child is photographed.
  4. Picture Day ID: LO435014Y0

Dear Parent or Guardian,
Your student has been challenged by Sluggo and the Eugene Emeralds to take part in Sluggo’s Home Run Reading Program for the chance at receiving TWO FREE TICKETS to an Emeralds game this summer!

With your support and motivation, your student can hit a home run in reading today! If your student completes his or her 10-task goal (either 10 books or 10 chapters, decided by their teacher) he or she will receive two (2) free tickets good for one Eugene Emeralds baseball game on the following Home Run Reading dates: June 19th at 5:01 p.m., June 26th at 5:01 p.m., June 27th at 7:05 pm, July 10th at 7:35 p.m. or July 11th at 7:05 p.m.!

Students will get a Reading Program bookmark from their class on Monday; the student can track his or her progress on the back of the bookmark. Once completed, the student must turn the bookmark into the teacher to receive the free tickets. Students have until Friday, April 29 to turn in their bookmark. The tickets will be sent home with the student the beginning of June.

In addition to attending the game, students who complete the program will be encouraged to arrive early for the opportunity to go down onto PK Field and meet an Emeralds player! More information on how to participate in this special event will come once the students receive their voucher.

The Eugene Emeralds are the Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the Chicago Cubs and take great pride in supporting the surrounding Eugene/Springfield community. We are proud advocates of reading and wish the best to your student in their journey to become a Home Run Reader.

For general questions, please contact Anne Culhane with the Eugene Emeralds at or 541-342-5367. Your student’s teacher can answer any goal-related questions.
