Dear Awbrey Park Families,

The 8th annual Awbrey Park Art Show is Thursday, April 30! It is a fantastic event. This is a great chance for students to show their stuff. Students have been making art projects in their classrooms, and that artwork will be on sale. The money that is made from the Art Show goes right back into each teacher’s supply budget so students can make more art.

EMazing Readers!  Your student is currently participating in the Eugene Emeralds EMazing Reading Program presented by Northwest Community Credit Union at Awbrey Park Elementary. Last week, Sluggo, the Eugene Emeralds mascot visited the school and challenged all of the students to become EMazing Readers. With your support and motivation, your student can become an EMazing Reader today! EMazing Readers to find out how.

Are you artistic or know someone who is? We are looking for art donations to raffle off. The art can include but is not limited to paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, pottery, woodworking, sewing, knitting, card making, scrapbooking, and jewelery. We are also looking for gift cards to Michael’s, Joann’s, or any other art supply stores. Any items valued under $10 may be grouped together in the raffle. We will be taking donations up to the day of the show.

To make our event even more fun, we are adding music. Stacie Yarbro, our music teacher, has been working with each grade level to perform a few songs. This is really casual. For instance, whatever Kinders are there at 6:05 will sing a few songs. If families can’t make it, or are late because of soccer practice, etc.–no problem. We just wanted to involve as many students as possible and make it fun for the kids and families. Thank you for supporting Art here at Awbrey Park!
Music times:
Kinder’s: 6:05-6:15pm
1st Grade: 6:20-6:30pm
2nd Grade: 6:40-6:50pm
3rd Grade: 7:00-7:10pm
4th Grade: 7:15-7:25pm
Bulldog Choir: 7:30-7:40pm (This is a Choir made up of 4th and 5th grade students)
5th Grade: 7:45-7:55pm

We had the Kindergarten Experience on Tuesday. This was a chance for students who will be in the kindergarten next year to visit the class. We want them to feel really comfortable when they start school in the Fall. Also, we have set up some playdates for parents and kids to come and play at Awbrey Park throughout the summer. This is just a chance for parents and kids to get to know each other. The playdates are the Third Wednesday of Each Month:
Wednesday, May 20 at 3:30
Wednesday, June 17 at 1:00
Wednesday, July 15 at 3:30
Wednesday, August 19 at 10:30

If you know of anyone who will be attending Awbrey Park next year in Kindergarten, please have them contact the office ASAP. We want to get an accurate number of students so that we can make sure our class size is as balanced as possible.

NO SCHOOL May 1st There is no school for a state-wide Professional Development Day. We will be working on Journey’s, our new reading curriculum for next year.

I was out for a while with an emergency appendectomy. I appreciate the caring community of Awbrey Park. Our students are so great. They are so supportive–even giving hugs when it kinda hurts.
