Dear Awbrey Park Famlies,

We have Craft Night on February 12 from 6:00-8:00 sponsored by the PTO.  This is a great opportunity for kids to make some neat crafts.  They can even make a Valentine Day Card.  Parents–this is also a chance for you to make a card for your Valentine instead of getting one from Hallmark!  We will have also have Bingo and a movie going on.  Come and join the fun–plenty of things for kids to do.

We are having the School Choice Tours.  We had two tours last week and a great chance to brag about Awbrey Park.  We will have two more tours on February 24 at 9:00 a.m. and February 26 at 12:00 p.m.  If you know of anybody who has a kindergartener for next year, please have them contact us.  We want to get an accurate idea of how many students will be coming to us.

When you child is ill, please call in to our attendance line.  That number is 541 790-4054.  We’ve had some parents call the Awbrey Park that is part of the Lane County Parks program.  When you Google our school, sometimes this comes up.  Unfortunately they get quite a few calls each week.  Please call (541) 790-4054.

When picking up or dropping off your child, please use the parking lots on the east side.  This school was built in the 1960s when everybody walked or road a bike to school.  When dropping off students–please pull forward all the way along the curb.  This is a safer area for students to get into cars.  We don’t want students getting into cars right at the entrance to the street because it causes a bottleneck.  Do not leave your car along the curb to look for your child.  This causes a traffic jam.  We also don’t want parents using the staff parking lot because you have to back up and it is not safe for students.  We appreciate your patience and care as you pick up and drop off your precious cargo.

We have no school on February 13.  This is an Academy Day where staff will work on professional development in the areas of: our writing program, developing the “Big Ideas” that we want students to be successful on in math, and preparing for Smarter Balanced–the state assessment.

Tonight there is a Smarter Balanced Parent Information Night from 7-9 p.m. at North Eugene High School.  There will be a parent night in each region.  Parents can go to whichever meeting that is more convenient.
